Jose Blanco, LASO attorney and Social Security Team Coordinator, recognized as NASW Public Servant of the Year

OKLAHOMA CITY — The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Oklahoma is recognizing outstanding Oklahomans at its annual conference, March 3-5, 2016 at the Embassy Suites in Norman.

Dr. James Burke of East Central University in Ada will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. The Social Worker of the Year award will be presented to Dr. Sharolyn Wallace of Skiatook, an Associate Professor at Tulsa Community College. She services on the NASW national board and is a past NASW-Oklahoma President. For her articles and columns that further readers understanding of important social issues Ginnie Graham of the Tulsa World is being awarded the Media Services Award. Jose Blanco of Edmond with Legal Aid of Services of Oklahoma will be recognized as the Public Servant of the Year. For his Representative Scott Inman of Del City will receive the award for Legislator of the Year. Undergraduate Student of the Year will be presented to Sheridan Pogue of Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow and Graduate Student of the Year will be given to Zachary Johnson of the University of Oklahoma Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work. Freedom Western Community Development Corporation under the leadership of Dr. Kay Decker is recognized this year as Social Service Organization of the Year.

The award ceremony will be held at noon, Saturday, March 5. Conference registration is still available at the Association’s website.
