#SupportLASO on December 1 for #GivingTuesday
Your Gift Changes Lives!

First comes Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and then best of all:

#GivingTuesday!

On Tuesday, December 1, we celebrate #GivingTuesday.  This day of giving was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y, and is now celebrated in dozens of countries around the world.  The goal of #GivingTuesday is to celebrate the generosity of the holiday season, and to inspire philanthropy.

As you consider organizations to support this Holiday Season, we hope you will join this movement and #SupportLASO!

Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma (LASO) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization that provides free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income Oklahomans statewide living below 200% of the federal poverty line, their families, and the elderly. In 2014, 626,906 Oklahomans lived below the poverty line and qualified for LASO services.

Your gift to LASO could help protect an abused family member from their abuser, keep a family in their home by avoiding wrongful eviction, assist a Veteran with obtaining their benefits, help a family improve the health of their child by working with doctors, or assist a grandparent left to raise a grandchild with obtaining guardianship or child custody. LASO does all of that and more, but cannot without your support.

Your Gift Could Help a Grandparent Like Annette

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Often Need Help Obtaining Legal CustodyAnnette Combs 2

LASO helped Annette* obtain a guardianship of her seven-year-old granddaughter, stabilizing the family and increasing her granddaughter’s chances for success in school and beyond.

Your Gift Could Help Veterans Like Kay and LaVonne

LASO Helps Veterans Obtain Benefits They Earned

Kay Berry 1

Kay and LaVonne* are WWII Navy Veterans who asked for help with a bankruptcy. LASO’s attorney realized they had not filed for VA benefits and had no wills in place, so she filed a pension claim for each of them asking for additional aid and attendance benefits, and executed wills and durable powers of attorney for each of them. She also filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy for them, which was discharged, relieving them of $46,000 in debt.
