The Homeless Legal Assistance Program (HLAP) is a program to serve people in the Tulsa area.  It was created by a special grant given to Legal Aid from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.  The goals of the HLAP are to help people:

• access other programs to help them obtain regular income.
• get legal assistance for issues involving fair housing, employment, health care and other public benefits.
• obtain and keep permanent housing.
• increase skills and/or income to achieve greater self determination.

The program employs three dedicated attorneys to assist people in homeless situations with a civil legal problems.  Program staff visit area homeless shelters and transitional housing programs to provide information about HLAP and to take applications for assistance.
